Today marks two years since Thiaya left us, yet his presence still lingers in our lives, our hearts, and the work we continue to do.

Thiaya wasn’t just part of the community, he carried many of us through it. A mentor. A guide. A big brother. A father figure. For so many, Thiaya was the first person who made them feel truly seen and safe.

For centuries, societies across the globe have understood what some still struggle to accept today: gender has never been confined to just male and female. From the Muxes of Oaxaca, who’ve flourished in Zapotec culture since the 6th century, to the Hijras of South Asia, revered in ancient Hindu texts as spiritual figures, history shows us that diversity is not a modern "trend"—it’s a deeply rooted human reality.

Yet today, this beautiful complexity gets shrunk down to political arguing. Some insist gender is "just biology," but from Albania to Papua New Guinea, cultures have always known the truth: gender lives in our communities, our hearts, and how we see ourselves—not just our bodies.

This video isn’t just a lesson—it’s a reclamation. A reminder that colonialism, not nature, imposed rigid divisions, and that legal recognition (like third-gender markers in 20+ countries) is only the first step toward true respect.
