NON-BINARY AWARENESS WEEK KENYA 2021

International nonbinary week is observed each year starting on the Sunday or Monday preceding International Non-Binary People’s Day on 14th July, and is aimed at raising awareness and organizing around the issues faced by nonbinary people around the world. To commemorate the week, Jinsiangu hosted it’s first ever ITGNC ball, Black Enby Magic, on 17th July 2021.

The ball, set to be an annual event, provided a platform to also raise awareness and create visibility about non-binary identities and the various ways non-binary and gender non-conforming persons exist, with Winners of the various categories namely; runway, sex siren, lip sync and spoken word, each received a cash prize.

Preceded by a social media campaign on Facebook and Twitter, this was geared towards raising awareness on the existence of nonbinary Kenyans and the issues they face to the wider society.

The virtual campaigns are to expand beyond commemorating Nonbinary Awareness Week in 2021 to raise awareness about the existence of nonbinary Kenyans and the critical issues they face via social media platforms in order to change the social landscape for non-binary folks in the country.
