A FIRST FOR GNC PROGRAMMING IN KENYA

The first International Non-binary Awareness Week took place from 12th - 18th July 2020.

Jinsiangu joined the rest of the world in spreading awareness on nonbinary identities through social media campaigns and a virtual convening of regional Gender Non-Conforming (GNC) persons. This being the first official convening in Kenya of Gender Non-Conforming individuals, activists and community organizers from various organizations and geographical areas.

The convening brought about the emphasis on Knowledge production and information dissemination on GNC issues with a focus on creating GNC specific spaces and programmes because, even though GNC persons have been able to benefit from LGBQ spaces, especially in terms of service provision and security, they are still marginalized and tokenized in these spaces, their issues remaining un-addressed.

The convening gave rise to a unified understanding of how to structure GNC programming in Kenya with a select team to outline core issues. More frequent such convenings planned , a first for GNC programming in Kenya.
