Community Paralegal & Advocacy capacity strengthening
Jinsiangu Kenya held a series of refresher trainings from its previous paralegal & advocacy trainings held at Jinsiangu offices in June last year, the aim of the refresher trainings were to strengthen the skills and knowledge of the topics covered during the initial trainings as well as share the experiences of cases the trainees have handled since the primary training .The objectives of the trainings were to assess what networks the trainees had made one year after the initial trainings ,the gaps ,resources they have at their own disposal at an organizational level to handle cases and legal issues that affect ITGNC community members and to draw a way forward in handling capacity of the programme.
In attendance of the training was a representative from Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS),Kenya National AIDS and STI control program (NASCOP) and Amka Africa Justice Initiative who were the main and co facilitators of the training.
For an effective paralegal programme, a hot spot mapping exercise for size estimation of Trans & Gender-Non-Conforming communities is to be conducted that would help scale up the paralegal and a peer educator programme for the community.
